Follicular unit excision (FUE) is a minimally invasive method of donor harvesting. In FUE, the follicular units are removed individually using an instrument that makes small circular incisions that heal by themselves. Hundreds, even thousands, of these incisions are made depending on how many grafts are necessary to fill the area of hair loss.
The advantages of this method are a faster recovery because there are no sutures, no linear scars and less post-operative pain.
The disadvantages of FUE are that the procedure is much more time-consuming, requires preoperative shaving of the donor area, and the results are often less consistent than with FUT. However, by using the ARTAS® Robotic Hair Restoration System and the most advanced motorized manual techniques, operative time is significantly reduced while producing consistently high-quality follicular unit grafts and superior results.
