Follicular unit excision (FUE) is a minimally invasive method of donor harvesting. In FUE the follicular units are removed individually using an instrument that makes small circular incisions that heal by themselves. Hundreds, even thousands of these incisions are made depending on how many grafts are necessary to fill the area of hair loss.
The advantages of this method are: Faster recovery time because there are no sutures, no linear scars and less post-operative pain.
The usual disadvantages of FUE are that the procedure is much more time-consuming, requires preoperative shaving of the donor area, and the results may be less consistent than with FUT.
We use the WAW motorized system for manual FUE, where the operating surgeon has complete control during the procedure and can more easily adapt to situations where donor hair may be curly, grey or irregularly angled.
